The daily upkeep of facial and body hair can be quite time consuming for some clients.  Having to deal with red irritated bumpy skin, unwanted hair and ingrown hairs from shaving, threading, plucking and waxing can be embarrassing.  It can cause distress to anyone who has suffered with unwanted hair and can cause poor self esteem.  Treatments for unwanted hair at Burlington Medi Spa include both Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis.

Laser Hair Removal is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments at Burlington Medi Spa.  We use Cutera premium Laser Hair Removal and Lumenis Lightsheer Diode Lasers.  These medical grade systems are specially designed to cool and soothe as it glides along your skin.  Having used different systems in the past, including a vacuum handpiece and chill tips, the results from the hands on chill piece are always better.  I have tested this on clients using both handpieces; the bottom line is you are paying for results.  Most areas require 4 – 6 treatments for hair reduction.  The number of treatments and frequency depend on the body location,  type of hair and skin colour.   Laser works only by disabling the hair in the active growth phase at the time of treatment as its only target is melanin.  It can take up to two weeks for that hair to fall out.  Lasers only treat dark hair not blond, red or grey, whereas electrolysis can treat all colours of hair.   After your series of laser treatments, the remaining hair can be treated with Electrolysis.   One of the most common misconceptions about Laser Hair Removal is that it is advertised by clinics as permanent hair removal.  This is not true.  Laser is hair reduction only. Electrolysis is the only recognized method of permanent hair removal that can treat all colours of hair and has been in existence since 1875.  A tiny sterilized disposable probe is slid into the natural opening of the follicle and a small amount of current is released impairing its ability to grow a new hair.  Most areas of the face  can be treated with electrolysis.  Common areas to be treated include eyebrows, upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, nose, ears, neck and hair line.  We don’t treat inside the ear or the nose.  Larger body areas treated with laser that have stray hairs remaining can be touched up with electrolysis.  Electrolysis can be done safely all year long except if your skin is sunburned, you have an active cold sore or an infection in the area.   An Electrolysis program is tailored to each client’s needs.
